Moogfest Brings Music and Technology to Durham

by Michael Polzella

Dr. Robert Moog (pronounced “mohg”) was an American pioneer in electronic music perhaps best known as the inventor of the Moog synthesizer. He founded Moog Music, which manufactures electronic musical instruments in Asheville.

The first Moogfest – described as the synthesis of music, art and technology – was held in 2004 in Asheville. The festival moved to Durham last year and is set to dazzle audiences again May 18-21.

This year’s eclectic lineup includes Flying Lotus, Animal Collective, Talib Kweli, Gotye, 808 State, DJ Premier and more. Moogfest will also feature workshops, presentations and installations from renowned futurists, technologists and artists.
