Salisbury’s Empire Hotel was built in 1855, opened in 1858 and operated for over 100 years until closing in 1963.
Recently, History Preservation Partners Holdings LLC agreed to pay $888,000 for the property. Plans may include turning the hotel into 29,000 square feet of retail space, plus up to 70 apartments. Partially funded by historic tax credits, the project needs clearance from the state’s Historic Preservation Office and National Parks Service.
Could this be a big boost for Downtown Salisbury’s revitalization? Developers estimate redeveloping historic buildings can return $8 to the town for every $1 spent. Stay informed.
