For the last 12 years, North Carolina has ranked in the top five in Forbes’ Best States for Business list, but had not reached the No. 1 ranking until now.
Our state’s employment outlook, second lowest business costs (labor, energy and taxes), and second smallest union workforce contributed to boosting North Carolina’s ranking to the No. 1 spot.
Forbes bases the rankings on business costs, labor supply, regulatory environment, economic climate, growth prospects, and overall quality of life. North Carolina was the sole state to rank among the top 20 states in each of the six broad categories this year.
