Confidence comes from competence

Executives seeking to climb the corporate ladder need three key skills: EQ (emotional intelligence), IQ and work ethic.

Shelley Broader, CEO of Chico’s FAS, Inc., talked about the importance of these skills at a recent Women Executive Leadership Florida event in St. Petersburg.

An “out-of-control passion” for her work and a penchant for healthy risk-taking has fueled her success, she said.

She’s known for skillfully proposing (and executing) big ideas, like convincing Delhaize Group to retire the Kash n’ Karry brand and launch Sweetbay.

Don’t mistake her confidence for arrogance. Confidence, she said, must come from competence.
