In response to a 2014 study that ranked Charlotte last among 50 metro areas for upward mobility, two companies are stepping up to the plate to address this issue.

Bank of America and Albemarle Corp. each announced $10 million donations to Charlotte-area nonprofits that focus on one of three key factors that impact economic mobility: early child care and education; college and career readiness; and family and child stability.

“By addressing the underlying issues that impact economic mobility, we can help build a stronger local economy and a pathway for the future workforce,” said Charles Bowman, Bank of America.
