In the 1960s everyone was abuzz with America’s efforts to put a man in space and then land on the moon. The astronauts were heroes. But where to get training, as they were recognized everywhere?
They received their celestial training at Chapel Hill’s Morehead Planetarium. The Morehead staff even replicated spacecraft from plywood so the astronauts could simulate looking out a window! The staff then protected the astronauts’ privacy by calling these clandestine sessions “cookie time.”
