Everyone loves a good show.
James Adams and wife Gertrude knew that. So, they figured if people could not come to his theatre, he would bring the theatre to them. Thus began the story of the James Adams Floating Theatre.
Based in the town of Bath, the theatre toured coastal towns on a 132-foot scow during the early 20th century, to the delight of many. The unique theatre attracted the attention of novelist Edna Ferber, who spent a week with the cast in the 1920s.
Her novel “Show Boat” later became the Broadway musical by the same name.
