The “Emmys” of the food world are held every year in the form of the James Beard Awards.
It is the premier national recognition of the restaurant industry’s finest. As usual, North Carolina did quite well this year with NC chefs receiving eight of the 20 semi-finalist nominations in the Southeast for Best Chef. Congratulations to Nate Allen (Spruce Pine – Knife & Fork), Brian Canipelli (Asheville – Cucina 24), Scott Crawford (Raleigh – Standard Foods), Steven Devereaux Greene (Cary – Herons), Vivian Howard (Kinston – Chef & the Farmer), Matthew Kelly (Durham – Mateo), Joe Kindred (Davidson – Kindred) and Aaron Vendemark (Hillsborough – Panciuto).
