Raleigh chef named James Beard Award semifinalist

by
Ashley Christensen

Another Triangle chef has nabbed a nomination for a national James Beard Foundation Award. Raleigh’s own Ashley Christensen is a semifinalist for one of the awards, also known as the Oscars of food.

Christensen owns Poole’s Diner, Death and Taxes, Beasley’s and Chuck’s. She was a finalist in last year’s awards but lost to chef Gabrielle Hamilton. Christensen won the James Beard Award for best chef in the Southeast in 2014.

The Stanley in Charlotte is a semifinalist for best new restaurant, while Durham’s Sean Lilly Wilson of Fullsteam Brewery is a semifinalist for outstanding wine, spirits or beer producer.
