What Is $100 Really Worth?

by

What you can get for $100 depends on where you live. You know the price of gas, groceries and a decent cocktail vary from place to place and you expect these to be more expensive in New Jersey than in Alabama.

The Bureau of Economic Analysis studied the real value of $100 to show how much it buys in each state. In North Carolina, $100 equals about $109.05 compared to the national average.

New York and California rank the lowest at $86.43 and $88.97, respectively. Mississippi and Arkansas top the rankings at $115.34 and $114.29.
