According to Merriam-Webster.com, the word of the year is “frequently looked up at Merriam-Webster.com, and must show a significant increase in lookups over the previous year.”
The word “justice” was searched 74 percent more in 2018 versus 2017.
“The concept of justice has been at the center of many of our national debates: racial justice, social justice, criminal justice, economic justice … The question of just what exactly we mean when we use the term justice is relevant, and part of the discussion,” the site explained.
The other frequently searched words in 2018 included:
