Relatively new, Gorges State Park was founded in 1999. Sitting on the western side of North Carolina, along the South Carolina border, this 7,500-acre park offers a rugged experience rich in nature.
With stunning water features and mature forests, visitors can enjoy distance hiking, backpack camping, mountain biking, horseback riding and flyfishing for trout and smallmouth bass.
One of the biggest highlights of Gorges is its waterfalls. Rock cliffs lend to amazing views of Rainbow Falls, Turtleback Falls and Hidden Falls.
Start at the visitor’s center which has exhibits, picnic grounds and shelters in addition to organized hikes and special events.
