An upgrade to our 911 system is expected to improve emergency response times and collaboration across the state.

Officials at the NC Department of Information Technology recently announced plans for new digital technology for the 911 system, allowing each call center to serve as a backup for any other center in the event of a natural disaster or an overload of emergency calls.

The NC 911 Board has contracted with AT&T to carry out the seven-year, $99 million project. Call centers are expected to be fully linked by 2020.
