North Carolina’s ferry system has been in place for 70 years and has become the second largest behind Washington.

Each year 1.8 million passengers and 800,000 vehicles travel on the ferries, connecting them to communities separated by large bodies of water. Without this form of transportation, residents and tourists would need to travel lengthy routes to get to work, school and vacation destinations.

A new $2 million, 8,900-square-foot terminal will be added to the Cherry Branch Ferry Terminal in Havelock, granting travelers a place to relax before cruising across the Neuse River to Minnesott Beach.
