The Cary Town Council approved a plan for a 380,000-square-foot IKEA store near Cary Towne Center. This store will be the second North Carolina IKEA; the first is in Charlotte. A number of roadway modifications will be needed to accommodate an expected boost in traffic.
The new IKEA could bring the opportunity for 500 jobs during the construction phase and 300 jobs in the store when it opens.
IKEA aims to provide a variety of widely affordable home furnishings. The Netherlands-based company also has a commitment to sustainability. The Cary IKEA might open in summer 2020.
