Be Aware of Driving Distractions

by
Yellow driving sign with the words "Safe Driving"

We all know texting and driving don’t mix. But texting is not the only driving distraction. According to the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles, in 2016 there were 54,302 crashes associated with distracted driving. One hundred seventy-seven of those were fatalities and 27,011 had injuries.

Here are a few other things that can take a driver’s attention off the road and potentially lead to an accident:

• Loud music

• Eating

• Conversations with passengers

• Young children in the back seat

• GPS devices

• Reaching for items in hard-to-access places

When it comes to driving, safety comes first.
