Raleigh makes short list for Amazon HQ2

After 238 cities submitted proposals to become the much-coveted second headquarters for online retail giant Amazon, Raleigh has emerged as one of 20 finalists.

Amazon expects to create 50,000 jobs and invest more than $5 billion in its second headquarters, representing an economic boon to the eventual winner. It’s currently unclear if Amazon is looking specifically at a Raleigh site, or perhaps a Triangle location. Either way, local leaders are excited.

“We look forward to sharing Raleigh’s unique story with Amazon in the near future and learning about next steps,” Raleigh Mayor Nancy McFarlane said in a statement.
