Last month WGU North Carolina celebrated its first anniversary as an affiliate of Western Governors University, a nonprofit online university established in 1997 by 19 governors who wanted to expand access to higher education.
Today the university has more than 100,000 students nationwide, including 2,700 students in North Carolina, and has awarded over $400,000 in scholarships to residents. WGU offers over 60 bachelor’s and master’s degrees in IT, business, health care and K-12 education. Tuition is about $3,200 per semester, and all students are assigned a mentor to help ensure success.
