It’s Getting Hot in There: What You Need to Know About Your Radiator

by

Your car’s radiator regulates temperature and prevents overheating. Follow these tips to stay safe and avoid a more costly repair.

If the temperature gauge indicates hot, turn off the engine. Put your car into neutral. Rev the engine to move coolant through the system. Avoid braking, which adds friction and heat. Do not add coolant or water to a hot radiator as this may crack the engine.

Overheating is dangerous and can lead to fire. If you see flames, call 911 and move away from the vehicle. Do not open the hood or radiator cap until cool to the touch.
