Reynolda Gardens – a 125-acre botanical masterpiece adjacent to Wake Forest University – is complete with working greenhouses, woodland trails and wildlife habitats. On your next soul-soothing stroll through the grounds (admission is free), take a moment to reflect on its history as well.
In the early 1900s, the land was part of a country estate owned by R.J. and Katharine Reynolds, who imagined a property easily accessible to the community and hired landscape architects to create just that. The Reynolds’ welcomed over 10,000 visitors in 1917 alone, who saw many of the flowers, gardens, and trees that we enjoy today.
