Taking a road trip this summer? You’re not alone. According to the AAA, 79 percent of families traveling this summer plan to road trip for vacation, a 10 percent increase from last year.
With these numbers in mind, WalletHub compared the 50 U.S. states based on 22 key metrics to find the most fun, scenic and budget-friendly destinations. The data set ranges from the number of attractions to road conditions to costs.
North Carolina was ranked as the fourth best state for road tripping in the country, and tied for first place with California for most scenic byways.
