In 1986, Dr. David Moore started exploring what he first dreamt would be “America’s Pompei.” This Saturday, 42 years later, you can join him and colleagues excavating the 1567 site of this Spanish fort, adjacent to a Native American village.
While dreams of marble floors didn’t materialize in his digs, plenty of amazing artifacts are uncovered nearly every day on a site Moore says changed American and world history.
Join the Exploring Joara Foundation tour at 11 a.m., limited to 30 attendees for $30/person. Picnic lunch included. I took the tour two weeks ago and hung on every word.
