The Smallest Big County

by

New Hanover County is the second smallest county in terms of area, but it’s the ninth largest in population.

With beaches like Wrightsville, Carolina and Kure, New Hanover is one of the more popular travel destinations on the East Coast. National Geographic even named Wilmington one of the top 20 surf towns in the world. But don’t let the tide fool you into thinking it is all about the water.

The television programs “Dawson’s Creek” and “One Tree Hill” and movies “Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood,” “Weekend at Bernie’s” and “Sleeping with the Enemy” were filmed in Wilmington.
