Inside scoop: Bill proposes to make ice cream official state treat

Official state frozen treat

Every state has its symbols, and North Carolina has some interesting ones. There’s the official state frog (Pine Barrens treefrog) and official state carnivorous plant (Venus flytrap). Soon, we may have an official frozen treat.

Rep. John Torbett recently introduced a bill that would designate ice cream as the official frozen treat of the state. According to his bill, ice cream is eaten by about 90% of Americans and contributes 188,000 jobs and $39 billion to the country’s economy. The bill also claims that ice cream is important to the state’s dairy industry.

Let’s raise a spoon to celebrate.
