Care for a paraprosdokian?

by The 100 Companies

Paraprosdokian, from the Greek for “beyond expectation,” is a wordplay in which the end of a phrase is an unexpected twist, used for humorous or dramatic effect. Popular among comedians, paraprosdokians were famously loved by Winston Churchill. Here are a few.

  • Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.
  • I’m supposed to respect my elders, but it’s getting harder and harder for me to find one now.
  • You don’t need a parachute to skydive. You need a parachute to skydive twice.
  • Where there’s a will, I want to be in it.
