The mission of Black Philanthropy Initiative of The Winston-Salem Foundation is to celebrate the traditions of sharing in the black community and to expand these models of charitable giving through education and engagement.
Three years ago, First Tennessee Bank helped BPI start an endowment, providing a $10,000 match if the organization raised $10,000 on its own each year. With the match, what was a $60,000 endowment has grown to $116,000.
Recently, BPI announced its 2016 grant recipients: Crosby Scholars, Habitat for Humanity, R.I.S.E. 4 girls, Wake Forest University and Wiley Magnet School.
