1. LinkedIn is a business networking site. Treat it as such. Connect with people with the understanding they’re here to do business. Have a professional profile picture and be sure to treat your connections like you are meeting them in a business setting.
2. Avoid generic interactions. Don’t send out generic invitations. Find commonalities – mutual connections, for instance – and mention them in the invitation.
3. Change the value proposition. Don’t sell or try to market your business. Ask your new connection how you can help them. Be proactive in finding ways to be of service.
