As we turn the page to start a new year, the past year will be remembered for many things.
Economically, North Carolina’s employment growth was 1.9%, slightly higher than the national average of 1.6%, but the growth was very uneven both geographically and by sector.
Our state outperformed the national employment growth average in construction, manufacturing, trade, transportation and utilities, as well as in business and professional services. We underperformed the national average in information, financial services, and health and education. North Carolina’s wage growth was 11th highest among states and our Gross State Product was 10th highest.
