Fighting Words

by Michael Polzella

Those are fighting words!

Want to see if someone is a true North Carolinian or not? Just utter the words “Lexington Style” or “Eastern Style.” Their reaction speaks volumes.

It’s all about the cue … barbecue of course. Lexington Style uses more of a red sauce, made from ketchup, while the Eastern Style is more vinegar-based and some say “uses all of the pig except the squeal.” Supporters claim theirs is superior to the other. Like the time when legislators tried to get the NC General Assembly to declare Lexington Style as the official barbecue. (It failed.)

Pig pickin’, anyone?
