How Community in Schools changed Wake County

by The 100 Companies

After seeing great success in Greensboro, local businessmen Alex Holmes and Glenn Williams had an idea to serve Wake County through the nonprofit Community in Schools® (CIS® ). Dedicated to helping at-risk youths stay in school and prepare for their future, CIS is the largest, most effective dropout prevention program in the nation.

Between 2018 and 2019 alone, CIS Wake served 1,949 students from seven schools across four communities. Through their efforts, the schools saw an 83 percent increase in attendance, coursework was enhanced by 86 percent and behavior improved by 80 percent.

In 2020, CIS Wake celebrated 30 successful years.
