For more than four decades, I’ve been exploring the North Carolina mountains, and the options for outdoor enthusiasts are pretty exhaustive. Linville’s caverns, gorge and falls make for a great weekend getaway.
The falls are conveniently located off the Blue Ridge Parkway and are the most popular waterfall in the area. Visiting Linville Caverns was one of the most impactful memories I had growing up, and the wonder of carving out the inside of a mountain still impresses me today. Hikers and backpackers can be challenged for hours throughout the gorge.
