While some say difficult race conversations are overdue, few will disagree that the protests happened so quickly we found ourselves adjusting and determining a stance on all issues – politics, police and black lives.
My 16-year-old son, Trey, provided the awakening needed when asking why I was sad about looting instead of being outspoken and concerned for black lives lost at the hands of police brutality and racism.
He put me in place and the issues in perspective. According to Trey, adults missed their turn. It’s his generation’s charge to lead change. I’m advocating for equality, justice and supporting their movement.
