A Wrightsville Beach charity is garnering national attention for its unique approach to empowering children with special needs.
Indo Jax Surf Charities offers surfing classes and camps to medically fragile, special-needs and disadvantaged children. Founded in 2006, it was developed from a belief that “the ocean has profound healing properties and can build self-esteem in children with special needs.” Currently, more than a dozen free camps are offered annually.
In addition to several newspaper and magazine articles, Indo Jax Surf Charities will be the subject of a one-hour special on the Oprah Winfrey Network in August 2017.
