The Hickory Museum of Art, NC’s second-oldest art museum, was founded in 1944 by local artist Paul Whitener. Its permanent collection includes over 2,000 art objects ranging from paintings, American pottery, glass art and photography to the work of regional artists.
Upcoming exhibitions include “Hickory Sticks: Jonathan Brilliant Installation,” opening April 26 and featuring 50,000 wooden coffee stirrers woven into a sculpture influenced by the Coe Gallery’s architecture. Brilliant will create the piece on site as part of his residency.
Located downtown, the museum also hosts events and programs based on a permanent collection of American art.
