North Carolina’s Oddball Drop Celebrations

by

North Carolina boasts some of the oddest New Year’s Eve traditions:

Raleigh – The City of Oaks drops The Raleigh Acorn, designed by local artist David Benson. The copper acorn is 250 times the size of a regular acorn, weighing 1,250 pounds and measuring 10 feet high by 8 feet wide.

Mount Olive – A 3-foot pickle is lowered from a 45-foot flagpole at 7 PM, giving you a chance to celebrate without staying out late.

Morehead City – The coastal community celebrates with a Crab Pot Drop at midnight and has an earlier drop at 4 PM for kids.
