In 1967, Bill Stoffregen built a small greenhouse in his backyard that would change the course of his and his family’s lives. Stoffregen let his friends and neighbors know through postcards that he would be growing more than he could use and would love to sell the rest.

While still working as a Wake County forest ranger, he found a piece of land and grew the business that became Homewood Nursery & Garden Center. Homewood continued to grow, becoming much more than a greenhouse. Today, Homewood is run by Bill’s son, Joe Stoffregen, who works to keep his father’s business blossoming.
