Recently, Facebook adjusted the algorithm associated with its Trending feature, which helps users discover interesting and relevant topics on the social network that may not appear in the News Feed.
The change comes in response to complaints of fake news stories and the lack of representation of real-world events on the platform. Updates include an overview of the trending story, improvements in determining trending subjects and more regionally based topics.
The Trending topics that appear are determined by the number of publishers posting same-subject articles and engagement level. Facebook is responsible for ensuring each news story is factual.
