Approaching conflict with compassion

by
Captain Jacques K. Gilbert

As a Rotarian for nearly 20 years, I learn about great people and their missions every week.

I recently met Captain Jacques Gilbert, who has been an Apex, North Carolina, police officer for 27 years. He has taken “protect and serve” to another level by founding and launching Blue Lights College.

Identifying a need to nourish positive connections between police and community, Gilbert recognized that our police force currently struggles with the humanity of law enforcement. He engineered a program designed to train new police officers to respond to conflict with compassion and respect.

Service above self at its finest.
